Student Salmon Art

From November 2021 to March 2022 over 800 students across Tacoma Public Schools as well as Cheif Leschi Elementary School participated in our Salmon in the Classroom program. Select schools were given a salmon tank and 150 coho salmon eggs from the Puyallup Tribal Hatchery. Students raised salmon from tiny eggs to eventually release them at Swan Creek. As part of a culminating project, students were asked to decorate a paper coho salmon.

These beautiful, one of a kind salmon were on display at the Seaport for the summer and fall of 2022. Every year, students are given a different art project to help them express themselves and what they learned while taking care of their salmon!
