On-shore field trips at the Foss Waterway Seaport offer interactive, hands-on, grade-level appropriate experiences that support teachers’ in-class objectives – and they are just plain fun!
We introduce students to Tacoma’s first port, the impact that urbanization has had on Tacoma, Commencement Bay, and the creatures that call the water their home. Our aim is for students to develop an understanding of their environment and the modern issues faced by Puget Sound.
Small groups rotate through a series of activities. Rotation lengths are age dependent (See chart below). The number of activities offered during a field trip is tailored to the size of the class, the amount of time allotted for the visit, and staff availability.
Our program topics are presented in a manner that will engage a specific age or grade level. We are happy to work with home school groups, however we cannot engage learners of vastly different ages (see Home School Field Trip Information).
|Grade Level||Time for each activity|
|1st to 3rd||30 minutes|
|4th to 5th||35 to 40 minutes|
